CASPER, Wyo. — A motorcycle driver died in a crash on Friday, Aug. 5 on Interstate 90 near Gillette, according to a preliminary crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Troopers were notified of the crash at around 6:31 p.m. on Aug. 5.
The motorcycle had been heading eastbound in the right lane on I-90 when it approached a left curve in the roadway near milepost 93, according to the narrative provided in the WHP’s preliminary report. The motorcycle failed to negotiate the curve and exited the interstate to the right, striking a guardrail on the right shoulder.
The impact against the guardrail caused the driver to become separated from the motorcycle.
“The rider went over the guardrail and down a steep embankment while the motorcycle continued eastbound along the guardrail face until coming to a stop,” the preliminary report said.
The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet, according to the WHP. Driver inattention is listed as a possible contributing factor to the crash.
