CASPER, Wyo. — Five people died Sunday evening in a multi-vehicle crash caused by a Dodge pickup truck driving on the wrong side of the road along I-80 near Rawlins.
The Dodge collided with a car and a commercial truck while heading east in the westbound lanes. As the Dodge pickup truck collided with the passenger car, the driver of a second commercial truck attempted to avoid the wrecks by swerving into the median. The second commercial truck went over the median into oncoming traffic, where it struck a Ford F-150 head-on. Immediately, both the second commercial truck and the Ford pickup truck were engulfed in flames.
The five people inside the Ford F-150 were fatally injured in the crash. Several other motorists involved in the crashes were transported to hospitals with critical injuries.
The driver of the Dodge has been arrested on suspicion of impairment and may receive future charges as the investigation unfolds.
