Remains found by Carbon County law enforcement believed to be missing man’s

THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. — The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office has found remains they believe to be of Thermopolis resident John Hammond, who went missing in November.

Hammond had last been seen on Nov. 6 camping and fishing in Casper’s Sage Creek drainage area, which feeds the North Platte River. Hammond was last seen in an area north of the Miracle Mile fishing bridge in a specific area locally known as Walleye Bay.

Though the Thermopolis Police Department said in a press release that they believe the remains are Hammond’s, the department will conduct DNA testing today to be certain. The results of the DNA test will be made available to the family first, and then a press release will be made by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.
