CASPER, Wyo. — The Station Road landfill caught fire Monday afternoon, leading to a blaze that covered roughly 10,000 square feet.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Casper Fire-EMS and Evansville firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Fire units were positioned for exposure protection while the Landfill and Casper Streets Department divisions began working to contain the fire.
The fire was ultimately contained and extinguished when emergency personnel smothered it with sand that had been excavated on landfill property. After the fire was put out, crews remained on scene for several more hours.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Casper Fire-EMS Department urges area residents to trim vegetation, monitor heat sources, properly dispose of batteries and to take other measures to diminish the risk of fires.
