CASPER, Wyo. — Captain Darek Pepple will soon be joining firefighters from across the country as a task force leader to help fight widespread wildfires in New Mexico.
The Indios Wildfire, which is mostly located in Santa Fe National Forest, covers nearly 2,350 acres and is 0% contained at time of publication. According to the database New Mexico Fire Information, the fires began on May 19, and are mostly fueled by timber, litter and understory trees.
This is not the first time Pepple has joined the frontlines to battle forest fires across the country; in 2023, he traveled to Oregon to help quell thousands of acres of fire.
