CASPER, Wyo. – Jasmine Jenkins, 4, ran among the flags and flowers before crawling on her grandfather’s back on Monday.
For Memorial Day, David and Kathy Anderson brought their granddaughter, Jasmine, to meet the great-grandparent war heroes that she’ll never know.
David’s father, Glen Anderson, fought in both World War II and the Korean War. Glen’s wife, Marlene, is buried there too.

David said his father eventually lost his hearing from the horrifying moment a Japanese Kamikaze plane exploded inside the battleship where he was serving as assistant gunner. David said Glen, who was awarded a Purple Heart, took over after the gunner was killed, shooting down more Kamikazes before they hit the ship.
“He told me the worst thing in his life was helping to take those bodies out of the ship,” he said.
“We’ll be here someday,” added Kathy. The two were married 45 years ago after serving in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. They’re now raising their granddaughter, Jasmine.
“She’s a gift from God,” said David.
