CASPER, Wyo. — Dave North has been named as the fire chief for the Mills Fire Department.
The Town Council selected North during a special meeting on Monday, July 8, according to Mills Town Clerk Christine Trumbull.
A Town of Mills press release says that North will oversee the town’s emergency services.

“‘Mills residents deserve to have a highly trained, capable emergency services department that can be relied upon when need,'” said Mills Mayor Seth Coleman in the release. “‘I believe Dave is the right man to lead the department in this moment. He has the training and experience needed to move us forward and set the department on a sustainable path.'”
The press release in several places mentions that North will be head of the “Emergency Services Department,” using this phrase rather than the Mills Fire Department.
The Mills Fire Department has received some of the Council’s attention in recent months.
They had initially decided to eliminate the department, but later reversed this decision, announcing on June 7 that the Town of Mills and the Mills Professional Firefighters union had reached an agreement to fund the fire department for another year.
Some citizens who were critical of the decision to eliminate the fire department say they are still concerned about the Council’s intentions toward the fire department.
Mills citizen Leah Juarez, who says she’ll run for the next Council seat, has said she suspects Mills Mayor Seth Coleman of looking for other means to make cuts to the fire department.
North is the owner of DNS Environmental, which offers environment and safety consulting. He was named to the Natrona County Parks Board by the county commissioners on March 5.
Earlier this year, North sought a spot as a county commissioner, but the commissioners selected Visit Casper CEO Brook Kaufman to fill that position instead.
