CASPER, Wyo. — Re-zoning to allow Casper restaurant Johnny J’s to add additional parking is closer to completion.
The Casper City Council approved the re-zoning on second reading during their Tuesday, Sept. 17 meeting. They’ll need to approve it on one further reading for the changes to become final.
Johnny J’s also hopes to add in new cooler space for their kitchen.

Before the restaurant can move forward on their plans, they need the city council to re-zone some lots of the Butler’s Addition to create the Johnny J’s Addition.
The restaurant is located at 1705 East Second Street. Johnny J’s hopes to have some lots currently zoned for residential re-zoned for general business use.
The city says that the planning and zoning commission received one letter in support and one in opposition to the changes. The commission approved the proposal on July 18, sending the request to the city council.
The letter in opposition comes from a nearby resident who says that parking is already limited in the area and the re-zoning may exacerbate that problem.
The city says that the planning and zoning commissioners thought that the re-zoning would help alleviate parking issues by allowing the expansion of the parking lot.
A building which was previously used as office space on a lot to the south of Johnny J’s was demolished in July. It is this lot the restaurant would like rezoned.
