CASPER, Wyo. — Blue or white? Sharp edges or rounded? Does the style fit the character of the community?

The public is being asked to help the Casper Area Metropolitan Planning Organization select and perfect the best possible signage for a “Wayfinding” project.

“Community wayfinding systems direct pedestrians and motorists around a community to key civic, municipal, historic, recreational areas and other areas,” a presentation prepared by the MPO’s consultant RDG Planning & Design explains.

That project involves Casper, Bar Nunn, Evansville, Mills and Natrona County and aims “to create a comprehensive signage system.”

These are the projects objectives:

1. To create a unified sign system that is inclusive of all jurisdictions and for all people of all mobilities.

2. To establish a cohesive aesthetic across the County for all directional, pedestrian and interpretive signs.

3. To embrace the natural beauty, including the River, Mountains and the people within the region creating a sense of place.

4. To consider the future and the impact of technology as the community grows.

5. To craft a system that is responsive to the needs of tourists and residents, guiding them safely to and through the community.

At public input sessions in the various communities this week, the MPO is presenting preliminary concepts and asking the public to provide feedback via surveys.

These graphic elements would highlight the specific character of areas in the county:

There are different shape and color scheme options as well:

The colors being considered are intended to represent landscape features in the area:

Implementing gateways into the various parts of the community is another element of the plan:

The signage will also be incorporated into map and route designs to help residents and visitors alike navigate the community:
