Proposal looks to bring more twin-home style housing to Casper

CASPER, Wyo. — The so-called “Fairgrounds Home Addition” provides twin-home style housing to Casper.

Developer Steve Grimshaw told the city council on Tuesday, Dec. 3 that of the 28 houses already built, eight had not yet been sold.

A new proposal to create a “Fairgrounds Home Addition No. 2” would bring more such housing units to the city.

He referred to the project as “senior housing-lite.”

2.17 acres of the existing Fairgrounds Home Addition would need to be vacated and replatted to allow the project to move forward. It’s located at the southeast corner of Fairgrounds and Casper Road.

The replat would also allow the construction of an interior loop road connecting Linden Way to Greenspire.

Community Development Director Liz Becher says in a memo that the initial development was “overwhelmingly popular with buyers.”

Becher adds that the lot size would be similar to the earlier development at about 3,000-4,000 square feet per parcel.

City Manager Carter Napier pointed out that the Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended the proposal be granted.

The city council approved the vacation and replat on first reading on Tuesday. They’ll need to do so on two further readings.

“The only criticism of this I have of this is we need more of this right downtown,” Councilman Bob Hopkins said after congratulating Grimshaw on the work he has done around Casper.

Councilman Steve Freel abstained from the vote.
