CASPER, Wyo. — Police say that a potential scam where callers claim to be members of local law enforcement has recently been reported in the Casper area.
“We’ve received a few reports today from residents telling us that they received a scam phone call from someone claiming to be a Casper Police Officer,” a Casper PD statement said Tuesday. “We just want to remind everyone that CPD will never call you and ask for money, gift cards, or information such as your social security number.”
The reports are just the latest incarnation of multiple instances of such scams. Recently in Wyoming, law enforcement agencies report that scammers may even be able to “spoof” or represent actual law enforcement numbers on caller ID, when calling.

“If you ever receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a Casper Police Officer and you think it may be a scam, hang up immediately and give us a call at 307-235-8278,” officials with Casper PD say. “We’ll be able to tell you if the call is legitimate or not.”
Casper PD goes on to ask residents to talk about potential scams, such as this, with vulnerable loved ones, such as members of the elderly population.
