Laramie Police: George Floyd demonstrations peaceful, more planned this week

CASPER, Wyo. — The Laramie Police Department said in a Wednesday, June 3 release that local residents held a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday surrounding the killing of George Floyd.

They add that similar demonstrations are planned to take place at 5 pm each evening throughout the week.

“The Laramie Police Department monitored the event [Tuesday] and there were no concerns,” the release states. “Police Department officials have been in contact with the event organizers, who intend to hold similar demonstrations each evening this week at 5:00 pm.”

“They are committed to conducting their demonstrations legally, peacefully, and with a minimum of public inconvenience. The Laramie Police Department vigorously supports all citizen’s rights to peacefully demonstrate any cause.”

Laramie PD said that demonstrations which have not received official permits must be held on sidewalks or private property with owners’ permission only and that all laws must be followed.

“We urge residents who are not involved in the demonstrations to respect all voiced viewpoints and personal perspectives,” they added. “All citizens should expect some minor delays around the walking demonstrations, which are scheduled to go from the Downtown Plaza at 1 st & Grand, to 15th & Grand, then back to the Plaza.”
