CASPER, Wyo. — Most of the 25 batches of chili prepared for the Mills Citizen Relief Fund Chili Cook Off at the Wagon Wheel on Saturday were depleted just three hours into the event, which is one indication of success.
Mills Fire Chief Bob Lanz estimated that the event raised over $7,000 for the relief fund, which was set up to help the city’s businesses and individuals recover quickly from property damage following from fire, flooding, wind, and other natural or manmade disasters.
“Everyone’s so generous in this area,” Lanz said following the event.
Live and silent auction items included a custom-built AR-15, 9mm ammo, and a weekend getaway to Rapid City.
Most of the chili recipes are closely-guarded secrets. Jennifer Baros of Garden Gate Estate went through 3 crock pots of mild red chili, a recipe developed over time and tested on family.
“Love” is the one magic ingredient that Kendra Chorniak was willing to share when it came to Buckin’ Brew’s trio of chilis: red, white, and green.
