CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Women’s Center’s COVID-19 status has moved to red, the Wyoming Department of Corrections announced on Monday, May 2.
The Lusk facility recently underwent surveillance testing, which tests 20% of both inmates and staff, and found 14 inmates positive for the virus.
With this status change, the facility will move to implement policies for a red status, according to the department’s COVID-19 plan. This includes:
- Moving testing to 100% for both staff and inmates on a weekly basis.
- Requiring masks for all staff and all inmates.
- Shifting all visitations to non-contact only.
- Preventing volunteers from being on-site while at the red status.
- Performing on-site temperature screenings.
- Holding parole board meetings through video only.
A facility moves to a red status when there is a 7–10% facility transmission rate. The current number of deaths at Wyoming correctional facilities remains at 9, a department news release stated.
All positive cases of inmates are medically monitored and managed with the help of the Wyoming Department of Health.
