Lemonade Day Kickoff (Tayler Stephenson, Oil City)

CASPER, Wyo. — The Lemonade Day Kickoff was a huge success, seeing almost 350 children come into Hilltop National Bank. On May 4, Hilltop — with the help of Sutherlands, Townsquare Media, and Dream Upon a Princess — kicked off the season by hosting a registration day for Casper’s favorite day of summer.

This year, Lemonade Day is happening June 25, but today was the first day that kids could register and get their goodie bags. Judging by the crowds, everyone was ready to get going with their very own business.

Lemonade Day is a fun opportunity for kids to learn how to start and run their own business. It starts the process of getting kids thinking about being an entrepreneur and teaches them how to manage money.

In order to participate and succeed, kids must follow a 14-step process that includes budgeting, marketing, construction, research, developing a recipe and tabulating business results. But luckily, kids and parents are not supposed to navigate this system all on their own. At the kickoff, they receive a Lemonade Day backpack, which contains everything they need to get started, including an entrepreneur guide, coupons for supplies, and more.

“Hilltop National Bank is a big sponsor for a financial literacy kind of program, so we want to teach kids how to run their own business, how to save money, how to plan things and how to think about a budget,” Terra Bigalke said. She continues by saying that “inside the packets they get, they get this awesome little book that teaches them all about how to run their own business.”

At this event, children were able to register, get their backpacks, put in for a special drawing to win big prizes, get some lemonade and a cookie, and, most importantly, meet Belle (from “Beauty and the Beast”), Alice (from “Alice in Wonderland”), Spiderman, and the famous Lemonade Head.

The lemonade stand at the event was was built and donated by Sutherlands. Sutherlands will also be donating free pallets to kids so they can make their own Lemonade Day stands.

Smiles from all the children suggested that the event was a great start to get the kids ready for a successful Lemonade Day — and a successful life in the business world.

Did you miss today’s event? You can still register by coming into Hilltop and Sutherlands or going online and registering on the Lemonade Day website. Registration is open until June 24, the day before Lemonade Day.
