Prime suspect in North Casper shooting dies following confrontation with police

Kenneth Elonzo Marion, person of interest in Friday shooting (Casper Police Department)

CASPER, Wyo. — The prime suspect in a North Casper shooting on Sept. 2 has died as a result of injuries sustained while fleeing from police later that evening, according to a release from the Casper Police Department.

The department was notified of the death of Kenneth Marion, 68, on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Police were called around 3:20 a.m. Sept. 2 for a gunshot victim in an alley at East K Street between North Durbin and North Wolcott. The woman had apparently been shot in the head. She was reported last week to still be in treatment for her injuries.

Marion was identified as the primary suspect, and police tracked him to an apartment complex in east Casper on Friday night, Sept 2. As expected, Marion left the apartment and fled on foot when officers approached. Police say Marion pointed a gun at a pursuing officer, who returned fire. Marion was given immediate medical attention and transport to Wyoming Medical Center, and later to Colorado.

The veteran officer has been placed on administrative leave, per established CPD policy, and the department said it has engaged the the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation to conduct an impartial investigation.
