Yellowstone National Park announces fall road closures

(Yellowstone National Park)

CASPER, Wyo. — Yellowstone National Park has announced a series of road closures at the park that will take place throughout the fall and winter months.

Beartooth Highway, along US-212, will close on Tuesday, Oct. 11 for the remainder of the winter season due to forecast weather. The road will reopen on May 29, 2023.

Tower Fall to Canyon Junction will remain open until Oct. 31 unless snow accumulates on the roadway, in which case the road will be closed sooner.

Most park roads will close for the season on Nov. 1, including the west entrance to Madison Junction, Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful, Norris to Canyon Village, the east entrance to Lake Village, Canyon Village to Lake Village, the south entrance to West Thumb, Lake Village to West Thumb and West Thumb to Old Faithful.

The road between the north entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the northeast entrance at Cooke City, Montana, is open year-round, though sections of the road that were damaged in June floods remain closed.
