GILLETTE, Wyo. — Formal charges are pending for a local man who was arrested Thursday evening on the suspicion of shooting another man during an ongoing dispute on Liberty Lane, according to the Gillette Police Department.
The man, identified on Friday, March 17 as 34-year-old Justin Calbert, was compliant and taken into custody when officers arrived on the scene to investigate multiple reports of a shooting outside a Liberty Lane residence at around 7:34 p.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said.
Wasson said the victim, a 23-year-old man, left the scene in a 2010 Lincoln after sustaining a gunshot wound and later crashed the vehicle into a tree at the intersection of Warlow Drive and North Gurley Avenue.
Officers performed life-saving measures on the man, Wasson continued, and the victim was taken first to Campbell County Memorial Hospital before being transferred to South Dakota for further treatment.
According to Wasson, officers reportedly located a weapon, a 9mm handgun believed to have been used in the shooting, in the Liberty Lane residence.
Wasson said Friday that formal charges are likely to be filed later today; however, Campbell County Detention Center records reflect that Calbert was booked for felony attempted second-degree murder, felony aggravated assault and reckless endangering.
