CASPER, Wyo. — A Casper middle school is on precautionary lockout, homes in the East 12th Street area are evacuated and nearby roads are closed as police attempt to apprehend an armed, barricaded suspect Friday.

Casper Classical Academy and Natrona County School District’s Student Support Services building went on precautionary lockout as law enforcement shut down access to East 12th Street and Beverly Street shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday.

A Public Safety Alert, issued by the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, says there’s a heavy police presence around South Wisconsin Street and East 12th Street.

A 12:50 p.m. update stated that law enforcement agencies and SRT were on the scene of an armed, barricaded suspect inside a home. Verbal commands were being issued.

East 12th Street is closed from Beverly Street to Country Club Road while Beverly Street is shut down from East 4th Street to East 12th Street.

“Please avoid the area and seek alternate travel routes,” the alert states.

In an email to parents, Natrona County School District said, “There is no safety concern for students or staff. There is no entry or exit out of the building at this time. Normal school operations are occurring within the building.”
