CHEYENNE, Wyo. — K-9 Arie has a nose for trouble, and he used it one last time this week in a bust that took 40 pounds of marijuana off the streets.

The bust came during a Tuesday night traffic stop, according to the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office. During a traffic stop by Deputy Gebauer and Sgt. Grimm, K-9 Arie sniffed out the drugs. Further details about the bust were not released at the time this story was published.

The bust will be K-9 Arie’s last. The sheriff’s office said he retired Wednesday because of metastasized cancer.

“He will live out the short remainder of his life with Sgt. Grimm as a couch potato,” the sheriff’s office said on social media.

The bust and K-9 Arie’s service to the community received praise in the comment section.

“Hope the rest of your life is without suffering. I heard the dispatcher do Arie’s retirement speech and I started crying with her,” Kimberly Blooding wrote.

“When you are on your couch make sure you get fed a good steak,” Rhonda Siverson-Hershman wrote.

Details about the bust will be reported when they become available.
