CASPER, Wyo. — Natrona County law enforcement partnered with the Wyoming Law Enforcement Torch Run and Texas Roadhouse to work for tips at the Tip-A-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics athletes today and Thursday, June 13 from 4 to 8 p.m.

In the annual event, law enforcement officers take their turn partnering with Special Olympics athletes to serve bread, sing to birthday guests and collect tips.

All tips collected allow local athletes to compete year-round in a variety of state, national and world games. The funds support Olympians with expenses from training equipment to travel.

“We want to raise awareness and funds to have our athletes compete at all levels,” said Cathy Bisiar, director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Wyoming.

Additionally, Evansville Police Department Investigator Jesse Marin said that the event holds greater significance than fundraising. He hopes to establish a tradition that fosters lasting connections within the community.

“We appreciate the value of being a part of community events like this. It gives the community the opportunity to see us in a different light,” Marin said.

Evansville Chief of Police Mike Thompson highlighted how the event deepens community connections.

“It gives us an opportunity to connect with the citizens,” he said.

Not only do officers have the opportunity to deepen connections with the public they serve, but they also form relationships with the athletes.

The Tip-A-Cop event will continue from 4 to 8 p.m. June 13 at Texas Roadhouse, 210 Miracle St. Event organizers also welcome donations online.
