The position of Grounds and General Maintenance – Mechanic I performs functions in grounds keeping and building maintenance for all College buildings, facilities and grounds.
The position of Grounds and General Maintenance – Mechanic I is responsible for maintaining and servicing various campus grounds and facilities including duties in general grounds maintenance, road/sidewalk/walkway maintenance, repairing a variety of different maintenance related issues, and any other general maintenance or grounds related task as needed by physical plant
Remove snow, debris, etc. from streets, parking lots, walks, entries, and exterior stairways
Perform lawn, tree, and general grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, fertilization, and pest control
Assist with installing and maintenance of landscapes and irrigation
Install and maintain concrete and asphalt roadways, streets, walks, signs, signposts, fencing, guard rails, etc.
Perform repair jobs; operate hand and power tools, fabricate parts, operate grounds equipment (i.e. skid steer, backhoe, utility tractors, etc.)
Perform demolition and demolition cleanup
Respond to emergency calls and special assignments; work in all weather conditions; may require evening and weekend work
Perform a variety of other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
High school diploma or equivalent and two years maintenance experience
Knowledge of grounds, landscaping, pest control and relevant equipment desirable
Valid Wyoming driver license and good driving record
Able and willing to perform physical labor for full shift
Ability to follow relevant policies, procedures, instructions and safety standards; work safely with power tools and machinery
Ability to have effective working relationships with other people and communicate verbally and in writing
