Kenneth Leroy Bachler 78, of Casper, WY; left us unexpectedly on Sunday September 24, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ken was born to Alvie Bachler and Sarah (Denniston) Bachler on July 15, 1939 in Thurman Iowa.
Ken enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956 at the age of 17. Ken served in the Navy for 16 years, sailing on many ships and visiting several countries around the world. Through Ken’s service, he served as a machinist’s mate through much of his career until he was honorable discharged in 1971 holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
On May 8, 1976, Ken married Lavone (Yant) Bachler in Casper, WY. Together they had three children: Anita Lynn, Gerald Wayne and Billy Lee. Ken was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his children looking for game. Besides hunting, Ken enjoyed talking about his Navy career, talking about his travels on the road, playing poker with his family, and playing with his grandchildren.
After Ken’s military service, he began his cross-country journeys by driving trucks and working for many companies along the way. Ken drove for companies such as PC Transport, and LL Smith Trucking. After taking a break for a few years, Ken returned to driving and finally retired from driving after driving for Rummel’s Oilfield Service. Through his many years of driving, Ken became known as a walking road map; there was no road or oilfield location that he did not know or could not find.
Ken was preceded in death by his father Alvie Bachler, and his mother Sarah Bachler. Ken is survived by his wife LaVone Bachler of Casper, his daughter Anita Lynn of Casper, his two sons Jerry and Billy both of Casper, four granddaughters Brianna, Abigayle, Annabelle and Skyla, as well as his two grandsons Kenny and Austin, his brother Don and his sisters Donna and Laura and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ken was always a loving father to his family, and the nicest friend you could ever hope to meet. Ken has left a lasting impression on everyone he ever met, and will be deeply missed.
Ken will be laid to rest with military honors at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2:30 pm. A potluck reception will be held at Casper Community Church following internment.
