Steven Guy Maya: 1958 – 2022
Steve Maya of Glenrock, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, October 29, 2022, at the age of 64.
He was born Saturday, August 23, 1958, in Lexington, Nebraska, to parents Jose “Joe” Maya and Permela “Jane” Barnes.
He attended and graduated Lexington High School before moving to Glenrock.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Joe Maya, mother Jane Barnes, stepfather Ray Barnes, maternal and paternal grandparents, uncle “Unc” Guy Maya, and niece Tara Barnes.
He is survived by his life partner of the last 20 years Suzan Thorne of Glenrock; siblings Brenda Whenes (Dave), Michael Barnes, Marlana “Annie” Saulsbury, and Julie Hagen (Kevin); daughters Tiffany Maya (Liz), Stephanie Finch (Jeff), and Cierra Stencil (Jeremy); grandchildren Kylen, Zoey, Mackenzie, Tristan, Maya, and unborn granddaughter Jessi; and many nieces and nephews.
He was very proud of receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in 1998. Steve was always happiest when he was in the mountains or had a fishing pole in his hands and spent every available moment doing what made him happy. You rarely saw him without his beloved dogs Taz, Tubbs, Ick or “lil T”.
Over the years Steve lived in Glenrock, Casper, Laramie, and Wheatland in Wyoming and befriended people wherever he went. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
In keeping with his wishes, there will not be a funeral, but his family will hold a celebration of life in the spring.
