As summer ends, flu season begins. This season, The Community Health Center of Central Wyoming is fighting back against not only influenza, but hunger as well.

CHCCW is proud to partner with the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies for their “Fight the Flu, Feed the Hungry” Campaign.

For every flu shot administered throughout the months of October, November and December, CHCCW will be donating four meals to those in need through the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies.

This flu season is shaping up to be an exceptionally nasty one, according to doctors. Now, more than ever, flu shots are of the utmost importance and the “Fight the Flu, Feed the Hungry” Campaign offers patients the chance to protect themselves from the flu, while protecting others from going hungry.

The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies exists as a vaccination to hunger. 1 in 7 people do not know where their next meal will come from. This number is even higher with families. For many children, their only meal for the day comes from school lunch programs, 1 out of 6 children are food insecure here in Wyoming. This is a startling fact that the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies is working to combat.

Last Fiscal year, WFBR has provided more than 8.1 million meals to those in need. WFBR was able to distribute over 10.1 million pounds of food through its 239 partner agencies throughout the state. This provided 22,382 meals each day to children, seniors and families in need. They were able to do this because of the hard work and volunteer efforts of those who believe that a full belly is a basic human right, not a privilege. WFBR works tirelessly with various partners to fight back against hunger.

The Community Health Center of Central Wyoming is one of those partners.

For years, CHCCW has provided comprehensive health care to residents of Casper and its surrounding areas. From Quick Care walk-in services to family medicine, oral health, women’s services, behavioral health and more, CHCCW has proven that they put the care in healthcare. As their name implies, community is of the utmost importance to CHCCW and their “Fight the Flu, Feed the Hungry” campaign is designed to not only help residents fight influenza, but to also help ensure that hunger becomes a less prevalent issue in the community. CHCCW believes in community, in family, in tribes. Tribes treat each other when they are sick and feed each other when they are hungry, and that is the basis for this campaign.

To schedule an appointment for a flu shot, please call 307-233-6000 or stop into our Casper facility, located at 5000 Blackmore Road, Casper, WY 82609.

This season, let’s all join together to fight the flu, fight hunger and feed hope.
