WBI psychiatrist Dr. Stephen Brown wins 2019 Physician Service Award

Wyoming Behavioral Institute Medical Director Dr. Stephen Brown was the recipient of the Natrona County Medical Society 2019 Physician Service Award presented April 27 in Casper and received the 2019 Wyoming Medical Society Physician of the Year Award on June 1 at Jackson Lake Lodge. Dr. Brown is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and has practiced medicine in Wyoming since 1990.

The Wyoming Medical Society Award is presented annually to Wyoming’s top physicians to honor them for personal sacrifice for the benefit of Wyoming and its communities. “Stephen Brown, MD, is an absolutely delightful individual with the highest of ethical standards,” said Sigsbee Duck, MD, when nominating him for the statewide award. “He is a terrific friend, and totally devoted to his family and patients. I can’t think of a finer and more deserving individual to be honored with the distinguished WMS State Physician of the Year Award.”

Natrona County Medical Society President Dr. Joe McGinley said Dr. Brown has a “humble and selfless approach to community service,” when nominating him for the county award. “Dr. Brown has been involved with the care of patients in Natrona County and across Wyoming since 1990. He is a Rotarian and graduate of Leadership Wyoming. He mentors students, residents and fellow colleagues daily in his practice.”

Dr. Brown volunteers with the Casper Rotary Club, and has served as Past President of the Child Development Center of Natrona County, Past President of the region’s healthcare Quality Improvement Organization. In addition to serving as Wyoming Behavioral Institute’s Medical Director in Casper and offering outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry services in Wyoming, Dr. Brown is clinical faculty for the University of Washington and the University of Wyoming, teaching psychiatry to WWAMI students and family practice residents.

Dr. Brown is presently serving on the Physician Advisory Committee to the Wyoming Department of Health, the executive committee of the Wyoming Medical Society and the Wyoming Association of Psychiatric Physicians, Delegate to the American Medical Society, and the Representative to the American Psychiatric Association. He previously served as president of the Wyoming Medical Society, Wyoming Association of Psychiatric Physicians, and Natrona County Medical Society boards. Dr. Brown has been honored with the Distinguished Fellow of the APA designation. Dr. Brown received his Medical Doctor degree at the University of Southern California and trained at Washington University Barnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children’s Hospital where he received the first annual Award for Clinical Excellence.
