CASPER, Wyo. – April is National Donate Life Month, a time to recognize and appreciate the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and their families as well as commemorate all transplant recipients in the United States. You can help honor those who have donated by performing an act of kindness this April.
Nearly 150 Wyomingites, including children and infants, are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, and thousands more wait for healing tissue transplants. Nationwide there are nearly 115,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, enough to fill the Cowboys War Memorial Stadium almost 4 times.
Wyomingites consistently have some of the highest donor designation rates in the country and right now 63% of Wyoming adults have signed up as donors, placing Wyoming in the top five in the nation. However, there is still a waiting list for transplants, and all Wyomingites are encouraged to consider signing up.
