Officials with the Wyoming Department of Transportation have announced two people have died in a vehicle collision on Laramie’s South 3rd Street, also known as Wyoming Highway 287.
Harvey Besneatte, age 71, and Robert Besneatte, age 54, were identified as having died in the crash. Both are identified as Wyoming residents.
According to preliminary findings, officials say that a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup and a Volvo combination unit were both southbound on U.S. 287 near mile marker 403. Reports say the Dodge pulled to the right shoulder, across from a private drive, and then proceeded to attempt what is described as a left-hand U-Turn.

The driver of the Dodge is believed to have failed to observe a combination unit that was traveling a short distance behind.
It is believed that the driver of the combination unit attempted to avoid the collision by overtaking in the northbound lane. The combination unit struck the driver’s side of the Dodge in a broadside collision. The Dodge was pushed off the road, where it entered the soft dirt borrow pit.
The Dodge tripped and rolled. The driver and passenger, identified as the Besneatte were wearing their seat belts, but succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Driver inattention is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the crash.
