CASPER, Wyo — Wyoming Highway Patrol has released details on a fatal crash that occurred July 1, 2020, on I-80 near Cheyenne.
Authorities believe 94-year-old Illinois resident Raymond Battersby was fatigued or asleep at the wheel when his Cadillac sedan exited the roadway to the left while traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. They believe Battersby overcorrected to the right, causing the Cadillac to re-enter the roadway to where it crossed both lanes of travel, exited the roadway, and struck a rock cliff face on its passenger side and front end. The collision caused the Cadillac to rotate and then roll onto the driver’s side.
Battersby was the only occupant of the vehicle and was wearing a seatbelt.
