CASPER, Wyo — The Wyoming Highway Patrol has identified 79-year-old California resident Mary Gallego as the victim of a fatal crash on Interstate 80 near Rock Springs Sunday, Feb. 21.
A closure order had just been issued by the the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) for blowing snow and winter conditions, according to the WHP report. At 12:55 pm, traffic was attempting to make the exit to return to Rock Springs and was almost at a complete stop in the right lane before the exit.
Gallego, driving a Dodge Caravan, came upon the slow-moving traffic at an estimated speed of 60 miles per hour, lost control, and collided with the rear of a Freightliner box truck, which had been traveling at 10 mph with hazard lights flashing.

Snow blowing across the road and slick and icy conditions were noted at the scene of the crash.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
