Police respond to violent incident at Cheyenne high school

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — According to a release from the Cheyenne Police Department, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, an altercation occurred in the South High School parking lot.

Police officials allege that during the altercation, a former student struck a current student with the handle of a firearm and fled the scene.

“No shots were fired. Students reported the situation to administration at 10:15 a.m. and administration contacted law enforcement. The Cheyenne Police Department immediately began an investigation, working closely with school staff and school district administrators,” the CPD stated.

Investigators say that following a thorough search of the area, the campus was determined to be safe. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at the school.

“Students, please be aware that you play an essential role in reporting crimes to authorities. If you see something suspicious, contact your School Resource Officer or report to Safe-2-Tell (844-996-7233) (844-WYO-SAFE). This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department,” police officials advised.
