A Lincoln Middle School teacher set a face mask on fire during a presentation on Wednesday in Green River.

According to SweetwaterNOW, middle school math teacher Andy Trumble was giving a presentation to teachers on their first day back at work for the new school year.

Cheers and laughter can be heard as the mask is suddenly engulfed in flames and Trumble falls backwards. The mask appeared to be soaked in a flammable solution.

Most Wyoming school districts are shying away from mask mandates as the topic has become more controversial. Wyoming remains ranked among states with the lowest vaccination rates in the country.

According to WyoFile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends “universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.” Its guidance also states, “Children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place.”

Last week Governor Mark Gordon said he would leave masking decisions up to local school boards.
