UPDATE: The EPA said on Thursday that only Wheeler will sign the memorandum of understanding, not Gordon. The governor’s office said on Wednesday both would sign. Oil City has edited this article to reflect that only Wheeler will be signing.

CASPER, Wyo. — United States Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon will attend a press conference at the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne on Thursday, July 23.

Wheeler will sign a memorandum of understanding with the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission during the meeting.

That agreement aims to help “strengthen the domestic uranium mining industry,” according to Gordon’s office. It is an effort “to improve coordination and cooperation in the regulation of the in-situ recovery process of uranium extraction.”

The press conference begins at 2:15 pm.
