CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Two Casper high school soccer teams had chances to go for glory in the Wyoming High School Activities Association Class 4A state semifinals Friday afternoon.

However, it wasn’t meant to be for either squad.

The Kelly Walsh boys and Natrona County girls played Sheridan and Gillette (Thunder Basin), respectively, on Friday for separate shots at Saturday’s state championship games. However, neither team was able to string together another win and earn an opportunity to take a state soccer title back to Casper.

On a chilly, blustery Friday in Cheyenne, Sheridan defeated the Trojans 2–0 at Central High School while Thunder Basin beat the Fillies 4–1 across town at East, relegating both Casper teams to their separate third-place games for Saturday.

Kelly Walsh will play the loser of Friday’s Rock Springs and Jackson (Jackson Hole) boys semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central, while Natrona County will take on the loser of Friday’s Rock Springs and Jackson Hole girls semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday at East.
