Officials working the Britania fire, outside of Wheatland, say that the fire has been upgraded from a Type III to a Type II. They also report that the fire has grown to over 20,000 acres.

A press released distributed by the Britania Fire Facebook page, credited to Eric D. Rush, Security Specialist at Camp Guernsey; says that weather has not been cooperating with firefighting efforts.

“The Britania Fire grew to 20,180 acres and moved south into very rugged country,” the release said. “There are also numerous cabins in the area. Because of the increasing complexity of the fire, the decision was made to upgrade the fire to a Type 2 incident.”

The fire is reported to be 23% contained, and is staffed with 259 personnel.

High winds and Red Flag conditions are in the forecast in the fire area for at least the next two days.

The release says that the weather is expected to make efforts to increase containment “problematic.”
