Fire burning north of Laramie Peak, crews face rough terrain

CASPER, Wyo. — A new fire burning in the Ashenfelder Basin had burned about 95 acres as of the morning of Thursday, Sept. 5.

The fire is located north of Laramie Peak in the Medicine Bow National Forest in Converse County.

Firefighting crews are being flown into the difficult to access area with rugged, rocky terrain, according to a report on Inciweb.

Three crews are already engaging the fire and an additional was being transported in on Thursday afternoon.

Three helicopters along with some air tankers are being utilized in the firefighting efforts.

A cause of the fire was not listed in the initial Inciweb report.

A Type 3 incident management team is expected to take over on Friday.
