The Reid Canyon Fire (Natrona County Fire District)

CASPER, Wyo. — Although there were no injuries reported in Thursday’s Reid Canyon Fire, one family has been displaced due to fire damage to their home, officials said.

“The main residence; as well as, multiple outbuildings, heavy equipment and vehicles have also been either damaged or destroyed,” the Natrona County Fire District reported.

The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office’s report that the wildland fire was contained came at 2:40 p.m., roughly two and a half hours after authorities announced resident evacuations in the area west of Casper. The Natrona County Fire District reported the fire burning in the timber of Reid Canyon on Pine Mountain off Highway 20/26. At the time, spread was “likely,” district spokesperson Leighton Burgen told Oil City.

The sheriff’s office reported at 2:15 p.m. that the fire was active in the 7900 block of Natrona Road, on the west side of the road near the base of Pine Mountain. Winds were changing directions as storm clouds rolled in, and deputies were covering areas and advising residents to evacuate.

Although containment was reached, the sheriff’s office’s 2:40 p.m. update stated that crews will remain on the scene with equipment to monitor for any rekindling.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Natrona County Fire District, the sheriff’s office said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family impacted by this fire,” the department added.
