CASPER, Wyo. – American flags are lining Veterans Park in central Casper today in honor of Veterans Day.

According to the Housing Assistance Council, there are 47, 390 veterans living in Wyoming, which adds up 10.7 percent of the population.

Almost 18 percent of those veterans served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The highest percentage of veterans, 37.3 percent, served in Vietnam.

According to Wyoming Public Media, Nov. 11 was originally called Armistice Day and honored only WWI vets, but by the 1950s veterans groups had convinced Congress to change the day to honor all veterans.
