CASPER, Wyo — A Wyoming resident died and another person is in critical condition Saturday, March 6 following a two-vehicle crash south of Torrington.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said 19-year-old Tyler Schaub was driving northbound on US Highway 85 when, based on evidence at the scene and witness statements, his vehicle veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Kia Optima. Both vehicles came to rest in opposite ditches. 

The driver of the Optima was extricated from the vehicle by Goshen County emergency personnel and transported “with life-threatening injuries” by helicopter to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

“Sadly the other party was deceased,” said Torrington Volunteer Fire Department, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this.”

There have been 18 highway fatalities in Wyoming so far in 2021. There were 11 to-date in 2021, and 25 in 2019. 

The Torrington Volunteer Fire Department,  Goshen County Sheriff’s Office, Torrington EMS, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and Air Link at Regional West responded to the incident.
