CASPER, Wyo. — Results are in from the 2021 Casper Marathon which drew runners from around the country to the Oil City on Sunday, June 6.

Firefighters with the Natrona County Fire District put in strong performances, winning the first ever “Guns Vs. Hoses Relay” and coming in fourth overall in the Marathon Relay.

Teams got creative with their names. NCFD ran in the Marathon Relay as “On Your Left” and finished in just over 3 hours and 43 minutes. That wasn’t quite fast enough to beat these three Marathon Relay teams:

  • First: Undertrained and overconfident (3:34:39)
  • Second: Easier said than run (3:38:31)
  • Third: Running on empty (3:42:21)

There were strong individual performances during the 18th Casper Marathon as well. Overall female winners included:

  • First: Rebecca Peterson (4:01:25)
  • Second: Jessica Harris (4:12:47)
  • Third: Terry Merritt (4:15:51)

Overall male marathon winners were:

  • First: Steve Kindred (2:50:12)
  • Second: Andy Ommen (2:59:50)
  • Third: Mark Buckner (3:05:52)

The marathon drew runners from all ages with Marian Loftin, 74, finishing the marathon in 4:57:46, the 15th fastest pace among all female participants.

The 26.2 mile course began at the Ford Wyoming Center, looped around Amaco Road and joined the trails system off Bryan Stock Trail. It emerged on downtown Casper from the First Street Bridge,  joined the trails system at the Three Crowns Golf Course and proceeded to the turnaround in Paradise Valley. The finish line was at Crossroads park, where pizza and sub sandwiches awaited the finishers.

“It was beautiful. the race directors really kicked butt,” said first-time Wyoming visitor Ryan Prokavic, who spoke to Oil City News while enjoying a free post-race massage by North Platte Physical Therapy. “They plotted a really good course for us right along the North Platte River.”
