CASPER, Wyo. — Nathon Christopher Gallant was found unresponsive in a Carbon County Detention Center jail cell at around 7:36 pm Thursday, according to a Carbon County Sheriff’s Office press release.

An ambulance was requested and attempts were made to resuscitate Gallant, but these proved ineffective. He was pronounced dead at 8 pm, according to CCSO.

Gallant had been arrested earlier Thursday after he failed to return to a jury trail after a lunch recess in Carbon County District Court, according to CCSO.

The Rawlins Police Department in January reported that Gallant had been arrested and charged with a felony count of Aggravated Child Abuse. Whether the June jury trial relates to this charge is unclear. Oil City attempted to contact the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office on Friday following the press release announcing Gallant’s death, but did not receive an immediate reply.

The CCSO said in the press release that when Gallant was arrested Thursday after failing to return to the jury trial and remanded to the detention center, he allegedly admitted to methamphetamine and pill use when he arrived at the jail.

The CCSO has requested that the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigations conduct an investigation into Gallant’s death and said that an autopsy will be performed.

“No foul play is suspected at this time,” the release adds.

CCSO said further details will be available after the investigation is complete.
