CASPER, Wyo. — Former president Donald Trump gave endorsements to three Wyoming candidates ahead of the state’s upcoming primary election.
In three emails sent to supporters, Trump endorsed Secretary of State candidate Chuck Gray, Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Brian Schroeder, and Wyoming State Treasurer Curt Meier. Each endorsement mentioned his support for Harriet Hageman, who is running for Rep. Liz Cheney’s seat.
Meier was elected in 2019 and announced his intention to see reelection this year.
Schroeder, a former head of a Christian private school in Cody, was appointed for the position after Jillian Balow resigned earlier this year.
Rep. Chuck Gray is a member of the Wyoming House of Representatives, representing District 57, and was elected in 2017. His current term ends on Jan. 2, 2023.
“Importantly, he totally supports Harriet Hageman and states, ‘Harriet exemplifies the Wyoming spirit — hardworking, fiercely independent, and cares deeply about the Wyoming people,'” said the email about Schroeder.
Trump echoed that thought with his endorsement of Meier: “Treasurer. Importantly, he is a big fan of Harriet Hageman, and has previously endorsed her.”
For Gray, Trump said, “He is also a big supporter of Harriet Hageman, who is working tirelessly to defeat the horrendous Liz Cheney.”
Gray’s main opponent is Sen. Tara Nethercott, who has been endorsed by former Secretary of State Max Maxfield.
Last week, the Casper Star-Tribune reported that Maxfield filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission that “alleges that loans Gray reported as being made to the campaign by himself were actually not funded by the candidate, therefore violating federal campaign-finance law.”
