CASPER, Wyo. — Following the recent passing of Casper teen Bobby Maher, friends of the Maher family have organized a fundraiser darts tournament, silent auction and raffle. The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at Diesels Bar and Grill, set to begin at 11 a.m.

“Bobby and my son were best friends,” event organizer Amber Vandom said. “He was such a fun, loving kid. They were always riding bikes together, hanging out and just getting into trouble together the way all young kids do.”

Vandom said the idea to help her friends with a fundraiser was a no-brainer, and the idea to specifically host a darts competition to raise the money comes from Diesels already hosting regular darts tourneys.

The tournament will be broken into two brackets. The first is a doubles competition where players sign up with a partner, with registration scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The other is a blind draw, in which competitors will be randomly paired up. Registration for the blind draw begins at 5:30 p.m. The fee to enter is $10 per entry, for both brackets.

The day will also include a silent auction and raffle. Vandom said several local businesses have already donated items, gift cards, packages of items and more. People who would like to donate items for the raffle can drop them off at Diesels or call Vandom at 307-247-4246. She asks that all auction items be donated by Friday.

There will also be a 50–50 raffle, and people can purchase raffle tickets at Diesels or the Check Cashing Center, 144 East A St.

“This is something we’re doing so that the [Maher] family doesn’t have to worry as much about financials for a while or feel like they need to go back to work before they’re ready,” Vandom said. “I’d encourage people to come out because it’ll be a really fun time and it’ll be for a good cause, too.”
