CASPER, Wyo. — The annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger food drive will take place on Saturday, May 11 across the U.S.

According to a message from Rene Eberhardt, Wyoming state president for Letter Carriers, the annual drive is the nation’s second largest one-day food drive, collecting non-perishable food items to donate to area food banks.

On their routes, letter carriers in cities and towns across the state — including Casper — will collect non-perishable food items left out by citizens at their mailboxes throughout the day.

All food collected during the drive stays in the community, they said.

“Our food drives are always on the second Saturday of May, and come at a time when donations are running low for the food banks and kids are getting out of school,” said Rene. “Our food drive is so successful because it’s so easy to participate.”

Acceptable donations include anything that is non-perishable, such as canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned meats, cereals, Hamburger Helper, peanut butter and tuna fish. Non-glass items are preferred, and participants are asked to check dates on the items.

The drive is on Saturday, May 11.
