The Public Services Department of the City of Casper is advising that residents might receive letters about a program offering protection for sewer lines.

According to a statement sent to media by the City of Casper, the letters come from the Service Line Warranties of America, or SLWA. “The program has been offered to Casper homeowners since 2012 and provides low-cost warranty protection for sewer lines. The optional program is endorsed by the National League of Cities (NLC) and is administered by SLWA,” the City said in the email statement.

The warranty program offers citizens a way to avoid the unexpected and often large expense involved with a sewer line break. The City of Casper says that many homeowners maybe unaware that they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the entire sewer service line from the house, all the way to the City’s sewer main-line in the street or alley. If these lines break or collapse, repairs can be very expensive.

The warranty program covers sewer line repairs up to $4,000 plus an additional allowance of $4,000 for public street cutting and $500 for sidewalk repair if needed.

The city says that the sewer line protection program is offered to the citizens of Casper at no-cost to the City of Casper, and no public funds are used to promote the program.

Citizens with questions about the SLWA program should contact them at (866) 425-6222 or go to their website at www.SLWofA.com. Homeowners may also contact the City of Casper wastewater collection division at (307) 235-7535 for information regarding sewer issues specific to their neighborhood.
