CASPER, Wyo. — People interested in making video games will be able to explore those passions this week, when local business Upslope Media hosts a Global Game Jam.

Similar to a musical jam, a game jam is a chance for aspiring game developers to come together and make a video game or non-digital game in a free, creative environment. Participants rapidly prototype game designs and inject new ideas as they work.

Those taking part in a game jam typically share a common theme and constraints, similar to a hack-a-thon. Attendees will be asked to attempt to create a game from beginning to end in a prescribed time. The brief time span is meant to help encourage creative thinking which results in small but innovative and experimental games.

The event will be hosted at Upslope Media’s headquarters, 627 W. Yellowstone Ave. It kicks off Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will continue each evening before wrapping up with an all-day event on Saturday. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

There is no cost to participate in the game jam.

Global Game Jam is a nonprofit that works to empower individuals worldwide to learn, experiment and create together through the medium of games in a safe and welcoming environment.
