CASPER, Wyo. — The Riverton Medical District announced in a press release Monday that it has been awarded a $37 million U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development “Community Facilities” loan to support efforts to build a new hospital.

This loan is the largest that USDA Rural Development has provided in Wyoming, according to the press release. The Riverton Medical District said that it has signed a letter of intent with Billings Clinic for the Montana-based organization to operate as the clinical and management partner for the new Wyoming hospital. Billings Clinic operates 17 health care facilities in the region. In Wyoming, that includes facilities in Basin, Lovell, Powell and Cody.

The Riverton Medical District said that the new hospital will aim to provide “high-quality primary, acute, emergency and specialty health care services, with a focus on being responsible community partners and providing local jobs in central Wyoming.”

“The members of the Riverton Medical District embarked on this important work over three years ago,” Riverton Medical District board member Corte McGuffey said in the press release. “We are grateful for the community members who have joined with us to support this effort from the very beginning. It is only because of their unwavering confidence in us that we will have a community governed hospital that will bring medical security back to our area for generations to come.”
