CASPER, Wyo. — On Thursday, the Wellspring Health Access clinic in Casper announced it has opened, nearly a year after its building was heavily damaged by an arsonist.

“We are so excited to finally open our doors to the people of Wyoming and the Mountain West,” the clinic said in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon.

The clinic, which will offer medical and surgical abortions, along with contraception, ultrasounds and other women’s health and planning services, is led by Julie Burkhart, who founded Trust Women and was at the helm for 12 years, according to its website.

The clinic was close to opening when the building was attacked by an arsonist in the early morning hours on May 25, 2022.

On March 21, 2023, authorities arrested Casper resident Lorna Roxanne Green, 22, charging her with arson of a facility engaged in interstate commerce.

Green made her initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Kelly H. Rankin on March 23 at 9 a.m. in Cheyenne.

The clinic opens as abortion access remains in legal peril since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Abortion remains legal in Wyoming for the time being after Teton County District Judge Melissa Owens blocked a state trigger ban pending a lawsuit filed by four women, according to the Associated Press.
