Laramie County School District #1 announced on Sunday afternoon that it had decided to close schools effective Monday, March 16.

According to a release sent out to parents and media, the move was made to mitigate the impact of coronavirus COVID-19 after un undisclosed number of staff members reported they had sought testing for the virus.

There are no confirmed cases at this time, said the release.

“While we do not have any confirmed cases at this time, we are taking preventative measures to reduce the possibility for spreading the virus,” said the release. “This is especially prudent considering our proximity to the front range of Colorado which is experiencing large numbers of positive cases.”

Schools will remain closed at least through Tuesday, April 7.

“Decisions about reopening after Spring Break will depend on how this situation progresses in the coming weeks,” said the release.

The district will be sending information on coordinating meals for students receiving free or reduced-fee lunch services, according to the release.

Teton County School District #1 announced earlier Sunday that it too would take an early spring break.
