CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Health reported 279 new laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 during their 3 pm Thursday, Nov. 5 update.

Wyoming has now seen a total of 12,954 lab confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. 86 new probable cases reported Thursday brought the state total to 2,455.

A total of 4,679 confirmed and probable case in Wyoming remain active.

The WDH report that 134 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized across the state on Thursday. A record 138 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized across the state on Wednesday. Wyoming saw a record 431 new lab confirmed COVID-19 cases Friday.

The WDH reported 12 additional COVID-19 related deaths among the state’s residents on Wednesday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 105.

The average number of new lab confirmed cases per day as of Thursday is as follows:

  • last 7 days: 183.6
  • last 14 days: 270.1
  • last 21 days: 259.8

Wyoming’s COVID cases began to surge in mid-September. Today’s average daily cases counts can compare with data from Sept. 15 as follows:

  • 7 day average: 50.3
  • 14 day average: 40.6
  • 21 day average: 35.2

As of Thursday morning, Wyoming’s effective reproduction rate of the virus stood at 1.22, according to Rt.live. Anytime the effective reproduction rate is above 1.0, COVID-19 is expected to spread quickly.

While Wyoming has led the country in terms of the effective reproduction rate of the virus at times in recent weeks, nine states have a higher rate as of Thursday.

178 new recoveries from among people with a lab confirmed case and 30 new probable cases recoveries were reported Thursday. A total of 8,275 people with a lab confirmed case and 1,434 with a probable cases have recovered in Wyoming.

The WDH reported 14 new lab confirmed cases in Natrona County on Thursday bringing the total to 1,527. Natrona saw 36 new probable cases, bringing the total to 409.

A total of 903 people with a lab confirmed case and 188 with a probable case in Natrona have recovered as of Thursday.
